Baby Hoppers are here!
One of our favorite fishing opportunities is upon us with the hatch of the Hoppers. The Baby Hopper is half the size of the adult insect anglers are used to throwing. The best news is, when the wind is kicking up on the Creek in the afternoon, anglers don't have to be done fishing.
Big Brown Trout were out and about prowling under the wind chop yesterday looking for something to eat. A combination of stalking fish and blind fishing produced a few nice blow ups on these big Terrestrials, and a few big fish to hand.
A Trico morning followed by a Hopper afternoon makes for a perfect day on Silver Creek.
The Hoppers on the South Fork of the Boise are also out and quite a bit bigger than they are on Silver Creek, so take your favorite adult Hopper patterns if you head that direction. The Club Sandwich is a favorite of mine on that river.
The Hopper action on the Big Wood and Upper Lost is still a week or two away most likely. There may be a few around, but a bit less volume will help the fish find them. Once we see the Trico on these rivers, we can most likely plan on seeing Hoppers in the same time frame.
What a great week to be an angler!
