Little Wood River

The Little Wood River offers two very distinct fisheries. The upper section of the Little Wood above the Little Wood Reservoir is a very small freestone stream running through cottonwood forests. Small to medium size Rainbow and Brook Trout make up the catch here, and although the fish may not be very big this is an amazingly beautiful area where the fish come readily to large dry flies and anglers can escape for a peaceful afternoon. The area we guide is remote and shady where hot summer days turn into wonderful memories of walking through cool waters, catching wild fish, and enjoying the surrounding peace and solitude. It is a great place to learn fly fishing and a wonderful place for kids and families to have the ideal Idaho outing.

The lower stretch of the Little Wood River, also known as the desert stretch, is just that, a stream running through lava rock and sagebrush resplendent with desert subtleties like lupine, deep hidden pools and long vistas of neighboring mountain ranges. The fishing here is for Brown Trout and Rainbow Trout that go from medium sizes to quite large. The fishery is primarily a morning or evening event when the heat is down, and can be a nice addition to a split day with Silver Creek, especially during the hopper season. If quietude is as important as catching a few fish, the Little Wood desert stretch is a tough place to beat.
